Wildlife & Walking

Our lake attracts all kind of wildlife, both big and small. We have an abundance of flora and fauna in ‘The Great Wood’ from wild deer to kingfishers, so you can just sit back and relax and watch the wildlife around you.

The woods and the local area is perfect for a stroll. Strensall Common is a short walk from The Great Wood, with a variety of different paths to explore. Or if you’re feeling adventurous, the North Yorkshire Moors a short ride away.

Fishing & Golfing:

Whether it’s your very first time fishing or you are an expert angler, our private lake is a perfect place to show off your skills, try your luck or just relax around.

Fishing is £7 a day. Fishing licence needed.

There are multiple golf courses nearby, including Sandburn Hall and York Golf Club.

York

The amazing historical city of York is only 15 minutes drive away from The Great Wood. Weave your way through the old cobbled streets and find some treasures down the magical Shambles and its popular markets, 0r transport yourself back in time by walking the city walls.

Why not explore the new box park, ‘Spark’. Here you can drink, eat and shop in the cleverly stacked shipping containers.

North York Moors & The East Coast

The North York Moors are a spectacular natural wonder forged by nature, just waiting for you to explore. The stunning heather moorlands and captivating Jurassic coastlines are a window to the past, full of history and heritage.

Only an hours drive away, you can visit the seaside town of Whitby, and eat their ‘world famous fish and chips’, whilst gazing at Whitby Abbey the inspiration behind Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Or visit the quaint village of Robin Hoods Bay, and the other seaside towns of Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington, all only an hours drive away.
